Blood and Cheese Map The Red Keep Assassination Route
Flea Bottom · Secret Passages · Maegor's Holdfast
After Lucerys Velaryon was killed at Storm’s End, two hired killers known as Blood and Cheese slipped into the Red Keep to take a son for a son. This map traces their route from Flea Bottom to the royal apartments.
Blood and Cheese were two assassins hired on Daemon Targaryen’s behalf to avenge Lucerys Velaryon’s death. Blood, a former gold cloak, and Cheese, a Red Keep ratcatcher, used the castle’s secret passages to reach Queen Helaena’s chambers in Maegor’s Holdfast, where they killed Prince Jaehaerys, Aegon II’s son, in 130 AC.
Blood and Cheese at a Glance
The essentials at a glance before the full breakdown.
Why Blood and Cheese happened
Early in the Dance of the Dragons, Prince Aemond Targaryen on Vhagar killed Lucerys Velaryon over Shipbreaker Bay near Storm’s End. Daemon Targaryen swore revenge: a son for a son. He did not attack openly; he sent killers into the heart of the Greens’ power.
The Lucerys Velaryon journey map shows how Luke’s last flight ended.

The route into the Red Keep
Blood and Cheese were recruited in Flea Bottom, the poorest quarter of King’s Landing, with help from the network of Mysaria, the White Worm. Cheese, a ratcatcher who worked in the castle, knew the hidden tunnels inside the Red Keep.
They used those passages to reach Maegor’s Holdfast, the castle-within-a-castle where the royal family slept, and came out in the chambers of Queen Helaena.
What happened in Maegor’s Holdfast
In Fire & Blood, the killers seized Queen Helaena with her children and forced her to choose which son would die. They killed the young Prince Jaehaerys. In House of the Dragon Season 2, the scene opens the season: the assassins mistake a guard for the target’s room, then kill Jaehaerys in the royal nursery as Helaena flees with her daughter.
The murder shattered Helaena and hardened the Greens. It is one of the turning points that made the Dance so savage.
